Greek Anthemion by Evangelatos

Evangelatos was inspired for many of his anthemion designs while walking amongst the wildflowers on Mount Hymettus. An anthemion (from the Greek ανθέμιον, a flower) can be defined as a design consisting of a number of radiating petals, also known as a palmette, with the oldest forms originating in ancient Egypt. As a 'rosette' or daisy-like lotus flower emerging from a 'V' of foliage or petals resembling the 'akhet' hieroglyph, some say it depicts the setting or rising sun at the point where it touches the two mountains of the horizon–A symbol of 'dying', being 'reborn' and giving life to the earth.
